So, check this out – Krafton, which is this Korean gaming company (you might’ve heard of them), went and made a big move with Unknown Worlds, the folks behind Subnautica. They decided to bring in Steve Papoutsis as the new CEO. Yeah, you might be like, “Wait, what happened to the old crew?” Well, their co-founders, Ted, Charlie, and Max, have apparently shuffled off the board. No idea why I noticed this, but it stuck with me.
It seems Krafton really wanted those guys to stick around, but I guess it didn’t pan out. Corporate drama, maybe? Who knows. Anyway, Steve Papoutsis isn’t just any random dude off the street. This guy’s got credentials. Like, really solid ones. Crystal Dynamics, Visceral Games… he’s been around. In 2019, he hopped into Krafton through this studio called Striking Distance. They did The Callisto Protocol. Pretty wild ride, that one.
And then, there’s what CH Kim, the big cheese over at Krafton, had to say. Something about how they need to give gamers the best experience with Subnautica 2 or something like that. Just corporate-speak, but maybe there’s some excitement in there. Or maybe I’m just reading more into it.
Oh, and Steve! Steve seemed pumped, said he was chuffed to join the Krafton fam and work with the Unknown Worlds team. He mentioned something about the “player experience” being their guiding star. Kind of poetic in a clunky way, huh? He also threw a shout-out to Ted, Charlie, and Max for building the Subnautica world – must feel weird stepping into shoes you didn’t sew. Fans, your patience is being noted too. So, you know, keep being you and all that.
