God bless Yuji Horii and his apparent inability—or maybe it’s more like a refusal?—to keep a secret.
So, picture this: we’re talking about the “Dream Team” behind Chrono Trigger, right? And you’re thinking, these guys are like vaults, holding all the juicy details. But then there’s Horii—loose-lipped as ever—dropping a hint that something’s cooking for the RPG’s 30th anniversary. A remake, maybe? Or is it just wishful thinking?
Okay, back up. There was this comic convention in Napoli, Italy. Sounds like an odd place for a bombshell, but hey, inspiration strikes in the weirdest spots. Anyway, Horii’s on a panel. Fans hanging on his every word, and bam! He casually mentions a Chrono Trigger remake. Cue the room erupting. Then, hilariously, when pressed for more, he covers his mouth. The translator goes, “You heard nothing.” Crowd goes wild. Can’t make this stuff up.
This isn’t Horii’s first slip-up, by the way. Back in July 2015, he accidentally spilled the beans about localizations for the 3DS Dragon Quest VII and VIII. Funny thing? One of them was already two years old in Japan. Oh, and let’s not forget when he announced Dragon Quest XI for the “NX” (what we peasants now call the Switch). That was supposed to be a secret too, only meant for PS4 and 3DS. Oops?
March 11 rolls around—the big three-oh for Chrono Trigger in Japan. Square Enix hits us with a vague promise about more celebrations. No nitty-gritty, just a tease. Typical, right?
So, what’s really going on? Is Horii messing with us, or did he let the cat out of the bag just a tad early? I guess we’ll find out. Or maybe not. Who knows?
