From Software has proudly announced that “Elden Ring” has surpassed 30 million copies sold globally since it hit the shelves in 2022. This achievement places it among the elite club of top-selling games like “Borderlands 2,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” and “Diablo 3.”
Released initially on February 25, 2022, the game received a significant boost with the “Shadow of the Erdtree” expansion on June 21. Since then, 30 million players across both PC and consoles have ventured into The Lands Between. Remarkably, despite its notorious difficulty, players eagerly embraced the challenge.
The game has enjoyed both commercial success and critical acclaim. The transition from the Dark Souls series’ linear paths to an open-world format resonated well with audiences and critics. Maintaining the classic Dark Souls difficulty, “Elden Ring” did see some nerfs and balance tweaks over time to ease the experience slightly.
What From Software will do with these impressive sales figures remains to be seen. However, they’re clearly aware of the title’s beloved status. The upcoming “Elden Ring Nightreign” spin-off promises to delve further into its universe, reusing assets with a fresh twist. It’s not a far-fetched prediction to expect more projects from this genre in the future.
