The Resident Evil Requiem bit at June’s Capcom Spotlight — oh man, it was like the hottest ticket. Everyone was buzzing, expecting to see some crazy gameplay. But surprise, surprise — didn’t quite get that.
Anyway, Capcom kinda spilled the beans on why they’re steering this sequel in a new direction. So, okay, instead of a show-stopping demo, we got this sort of behind-the-scenes thing — like a Creators’ Message. Yeah, a lot of chatter with devs mixed in with some game snippets. Honestly, who even expected that?
One big reveal, though: the main character, Grace, turns out she’s from the Ashcroft line from the Resident Evil Outbreak saga. Mind blown, right? It’s not just a random break from the Winters family plot. They wanna dive back into the whole Raccoon City and Umbrella chaos. Hits different, especially since it’s the 30th-anniversary thing and all.
And Leon Kennedy not being the lead? I kept thinking, what gives? But here’s the twist — they wanted someone who gets scared easily. Leon’s like, the king of cool — not exactly jumping at shadows. So, Grace’s our girl because she feels like, I dunno, us. Not that she’s helpless — she’s got FBI training and all and can handle a gun. Makes sense, right? Wouldn’t play the same way with Leon.
Oh, and if you caught all the Requiem teasers from Summer Game Fest, you’d know you can switch between first and third-person views. Seemed like a neat option, although Capcom said this was more about choice than any influence from that Resident Evil Village DLC. Apparently, folks stick to one view they like and roll with it.
Mark your calendars — Resident Evil Requiem’s landing on February 27, 2026. It’s coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Can’t wait!
