After nearly a year of anticipation, Microsoft is finally rolling out Windows Recall on Copilot+ PCs. This follows its initial announcement back in May 2024, when the AI tool stirred up quite a bit of controversy. Many were quick to label it a privacy and security hazard because it stored collected data locally on your PC. Originally set for a different launch date, the rollout got delayed just days before the scheduled debut due to these concerns. Since then, Microsoft has been diligently working on enhancing the security part of Recall. Now, they’re confident it’s ready for the masses, following extensive testing through their Insider program since last November.
Windows Recall is a fascinating feature, designed to capture snapshots of everything you do on your PC. Imagine being able to go back in time to see what was on your screen at any given moment. The Recall app makes it easy to manage these snapshots, allowing you to view or delete them whenever you wish. You can also choose which apps and webpages to exclude from being captured. Crucially, Microsoft has emphasized that the data remains local, encrypted, and private—no uploading to the cloud. Accessing these snapshots requires authentication through Windows Hello using face unlock, fingerprint, or PIN.
But that’s not all. Alongside Recall’s official debut, two new features are also being introduced to Copilot+ PCs. Let’s talk about Click To Do and AI search.
Click To Do takes Recall to the next level by integrating an AI overlay into Windows 11. Accessing it is straightforward—just press the Windows key and click your mouse. This tool empowers you to seamlessly copy and edit images or refine text on any screen, whether it’s on an app or a webpage.
Then there’s the revamped AI search. By incorporating natural language capabilities, it simplifies the process of locating your files, applications, or settings. AI integration extends across the Windows Search pane, the Settings app, and File Explorer, promising a swift and efficient search experience.
These features are gradually rolling out through the April 2025 non-security preview update, reaching all Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon, Intel, and AMD processors within the coming month. Meanwhile, users in the European Economic Area can expect Windows Recall and Click To Do to become available later this year. Want in on the action sooner? Be sure to enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option in your Windows Update settings.
