At the recent “Japan IT Spring Week,” Minisforum unveiled its upcoming line-up featuring AMD’s next-gen Ryzen CPUs, including a slick new Mobile on Desktop (MoTD) and a compact Mini PC, both packed with the cutting-edge Ryzen 9 9955HX “Fire Range” processor.
Minisforum is bringing two exciting new offerings to the table, each equipped with the formidable AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX “Fire Range” processor in distinctly different packages—one as a MoTD motherboard and the other as a Mini PC.
Let’s kick things off by diving into the Minisforum F1FGM MoTD motherboard. It’s a continuation of their innovative MoTD series, enhanced with the latest processor technology. This board comes in a mATX design and boasts robust heatsinks covering the VRMs, M.2 slots, PCH, and includes an IO cover for comprehensive protection. As a natural successor to the BD770i and BD790i series that sported the Dragon Range “Ryzen 7000HX” CPUs, this model upgrades to the Fire Range “Ryzen 9000HX” lineup, promising serious performance.
The F1FGM MoTD supports the powerful AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX CPU, which features a whopping 16 cores and 32 threads built on the Zen 5 core architecture. The CPU delivers an impressive boost clock speed of up to 5.4 GHz and includes a substantial 64 MB of L3 cache. It’s officially rated at 55W, but on this desktop-class “mobile” board, you can push it to a heat-blasting 160W for those demanding tasks.
By the way, there’s also an “X3D” edition of this CPU available. For thermal management, cooling is achieved via a vapor chamber baseplate, given that these mobile CPUs lack an Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS). This setup includes a 13-phase Duet rail design VRM with 60A Smart Power Stages.
Looking at its memory capabilities, the board supports up to 256 GB of DDR5 RAM through four standard UDIMM slots, with speeds reaching a blazing 8000 MT/s. The chipset, an X870M, is a mobile-grade design closely aligned with the B850 series. Expansion slots include two PCIe slots (5.0 x16 and 4.0 x16) and three M.2 slots, with one rated for Gen5x4 speeds. There are also two SATA III ports and advanced connectivity options like USB4, 5GbE LAN, and WIFI7, complemented by dual BIOS DEBUG LEDs.
Next up, we have the Minisforum MS-A2 Mini PC, which also harnesses the prowess of AMD’s Ryzen 9000HX “Fire Range” CPUs. Building on the MS-A1 series hosting Ryzen 8000G processors, these new Mini PCs are kitted out with the latest in connectivity solutions, sporting three M.2 slots (one adaptable to U.2), a 10 GbE LAN connectivity via an SFP+ port, and a PCIe 4.0 x8 slot suitable for low-profile cards.
Unlike its MoTD counterpart, the Mini PC version houses a different motherboard equipped with two SO-DIMM slots allowing up to 96 GB of memory, with speeds of up to 5200 MT/s. The IO is impressive, featuring two USB 3.2 Gen Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen 2, a solitary USB 2.0, paired with dual 10 GbE LAN ports, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.0, along with DP and HDMI outputs for visual connectivity.
On the NAS front, Minisforum brings you the Strix-powered N5 PRO. This device integrates the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU, which features 12 cores and 24 threads alongside the Radeon 890M iGPU. The NAS system is designed with five 3.5-inch bays that allow RAID configurations and features a toolless design for easy drive management. Supporting up to 48 GB DDR5 SO-DIMMs, the system also offers a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot accommodating video solutions.
Each drive bay accommodates up to 22 TB of HDD space. Additionally, the NAS includes three PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots (two at Gen4x1 and one at Gen4x2). Interface options feature a 10 GbE and a 5 GbE Ethernet port alongside three USB 3.2 Gen1 ports for versatile connectivity.
Stay tuned, as Minisforum plans to roll out these cutting-edge solutions shortly. Keep an eye out for more updates!
