Dune: Awakening is gearing up for a massive beta test from May 9 to May 12, paving the way for its PC debut on June 10. Funcom, the creators of Conan Exiles, are transforming the iconic Dune saga into an immersive multiplayer survival game.
This game was initially revealed by Funcom back in 2022 as part of their collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, known for the recent Dune films. Since then, the Norwegian developer has released various trailers and conducted several beta tests, building excitement among fans. Originally set for release on May 20, the developers decided to push the launch to June 10, a decision announced earlier in April. Now, they’ve unveiled plans for the largest beta phase yet, just before the eagerly anticipated release.
In their latest announcement, Funcom shared that this upcoming beta will be the biggest one so far. Interested players can sign up through the game’s Steam page and gain access to explore the sprawling, Sandworm-filled world of Arrakis. This beta includes the first 20 hours or most of Act 1. Unlike previous versions, this round has no non-disclosure agreement, allowing players to openly share their experiences. Also, Funcom has dropped a new trailer highlighting the game’s storyline and the protagonist’s journey.
Mark your calendars for May 10, when Funcom will host a LAN party broadcast, showcasing different locations within the game while distributing tens of thousands of beta keys. This offers even more fans the chance to immerse themselves in Dune: Awakening before its official release.
While the PC version of the game has a confirmed launch date, there’s limited information regarding its availability on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. In 2024, a project lead pointed out challenges associated with developing for Xbox Series S, potentially impacting the console version’s timeline. Once the PC version is launched, it’s likely that development on the console ports will speed up, as Funcom shifts more resources to that project.
