Oh boy, so you know that feeling when you’re just getting into something and then, bam, a twist you didn’t see coming? Well, that’s kinda what’s happening with Nintendo’s Switch lineup in Canada. They’re messing with the prices. The whole shebang—Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite—plus games, apps, and those Amiibo thingamajigs.
No one’s saying when it’ll hit, but August 1 is the magic date to watch on their online store. Why’s it happening? Ah, the usual suspects: market voodoo and maybe tariffs and all that jazz. They didn’t spill the beans on whether prices are going up or down, but c’mon, when do companies ever cut prices? Just saying, my gut says hikes are on the horizon.
So, today, we’ve got the regular Switch at $399, OLED at $449, and for the penny-pinchers, there’s the Lite at $259. Heard some whispers that globally, the prices might jump 5-10%, but who really knows, right?
Flashback to April, when Nintendo blamed “market stuff” again for pausing Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. and Canada. They didn’t want those pesky tariffs by the Trump administration messing everything up. Pre-orders were supposed to kick off on April 9, 2025, but they hit the brakes for a bit to get the lay of the land. Still dropped the Switch 2 on June 5, though. Bold move, eh?
The Switch 2, by the way, dodges the price drama for now. Sporting a nifty 7.9-inch screen and juicy internals. Launched fast and furious with 3.5 million units sold in just four days. Crazy, right?
