Man, here’s a story. So, this guy Fredrik Loving, who’s been around forever in the game biz, just snagged the gig as the big cheese over at LEGO’s gaming department. Yeah, he threw it up on LinkedIn, all official-like, saying he’s now the SVP and top honcho of LEGO Game.
Loving’s journey is kinda wild. Came from Spin Master where he was the kingpin for, like, five-and-a-half years. But before that—oh, it’s a trip—he bounced around at places like Rovio and DICE. Spent over a decade there, mostly entrenched in the Battlefield world. And just when you think he’s done carving his path, in 2017, he goes and starts this storytelling company, Goodbye Kansas. Fast forward two years, boom, he’s out.
On LinkedIn, he gets all mushy, “Thanks for the five awesome years at Spin Master,” yadda yadda, “met some amazing folks,” you know the drill. Then he’s all jazzed about his next adventure, landing at LEGO. Calls it a brand he’s adored since he was a wee one. Seriously, that hits home, doesn’t it?
Here’s where it gets juicy. LEGO’s like, “Hey, let’s cut out the middlemen and do our own game thing.” They’ve been outsourcing forever because of some blunder in the 90s with overextending into games. I guess they’re ready to take the wheel again. Crazy how things circle back, huh?
