The whole VR thing with zombies… yeah, it’s happening. I got to mess around with “World War Z VR” on Quest, and it’s crammed with those classic zombie hoards. Picture this: 200 zombies screaming all at once. Exactly, I know right? I went in wondering one thing, is more actually better in a VR game? Stay with me, we’ll figure it out together.
Now, zombie games—they’ve got a recipe. Fewer zombies mean they’re scarier because they’re tough. But here? Nope. One zombie, maybe two, they’re like pesky gnats. But when it starts looking like a rock concert crowd, that’s when it gets wild. VR-style massive.
Speaking of which, it’s kinda funny. You can whack a lone zombie with a rifle and laugh it off, or reload and just, you know, headshot them like it’s nothing. Sometimes they’re all bunched up, which makes them easier to hit, but don’t relax just yet.
Right, so “World War Z VR” throws in some variety, although I mainly messed around with the Tokyo map. Sometimes, you’ll see a zombie glow red. What does it mean? Beats me, but it’s definitely not your usual runner. Keeps things from getting stale, you know? You fight through tight spaces, big open spots—I dunno, somehow it felt like a martial arts movie. Enemies wait their turn to take you on—it’s almost polite.
The weird part? Before playing, I expected it to mimic the movie—constant panic and sudden game over. But no, these zombies have manners. You take out one and another one kindly replaces it. How thoughtful, right?
Is more better? I’m still chewing on that one. Mowing down waves of 20 zombies at once felt frankly kind of satisfying. Ammo is your best bud, but you’ve got to think about bottlenecks and hope your AI pals can keep up. Spoiler: they can’t. They’re as useful as a chocolate teapot. Just saying.
They don’t do much more than distract the undead. But hey, I guess they take some hits so you don’t have to. Still, this game screams for multiplayer. I mean, come on, why isn’t it?
The Tokyo level threw in some curveballs I wasn’t expecting. Had to arm a bomb with all these steps—twist this, shake that. Then you deal with sealing it in the right spot. There’s a whole treasure hunt for machine gun keys and stuff. Cool, right? And then, boom, the biggest wave of zombies yet.
Even with all its quirks, there’s definitely enough meat to chew on for the full version. I’m pretty intrigued, not gonna lie.
More detailed thoughts to come when the game drops fully on August 12th, so keep an eye for that. Expect a full download on how it all shoots and feels, the weapon arsenal (it’s a mixed bag), movement options (plenty to choose from!), and whatever plot there is (besides shooting stuff).
Till then, preorder if you’re curious—$20 on Quest 2 or Steam. Let’s see what happens next!
