Subnautica 2 has finally surfaced, thanks to the first developer vlog from the team at Unknown Worlds. They’re inviting fans to dive into the game’s Discord and keep an eye out for its Early Access launch on Steam. This sneak peek includes glimpses of gameplay, intriguing new creatures, and some exciting co-op action in development.
In this vlog, Anthony Gallegos, the design lead, guides us through what’s ahead. Titled the “road to Early Access,” this video serves as our first real look at Subnautica 2 since it was unveiled at the last Xbox Partner Showcase, where the 2025 release window was announced.
Standout moments in the vlog include a slick new vehicle, snippets of co-op gameplay, and a preview of new biomes still under development. Plus, we catch a glimpse of eerie ocean creatures that you’re bound to find thrilling. Admittedly, much of what we see is in the early stages, with mid-design footage being showcased. But let’s be honest, for those of us who love watching games evolve from the ground up, this is pretty captivating. Whoever said avoiding the sausage-making process was best clearly never got hooked on video games before they launched.
Subnautica 2 certainly has big expectations to meet. The original game made quite a splash with its unique take on survival games, set under the sea with a distinctive aesthetic. It looks like Subnautica 2 carries on this legacy, with a few more bells and whistles added to the mix. It’s everything you’d hope for in a sequel: familiar yet refreshingly new.
So, what do you think? Are you pumped for Subnautica 2? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
