Oh boy, it’s Wednesday—at least, as I’m jotting this down—and PlayStation’s got something new to show off. Imagine a ‘meet-the-family’ kinda vibe, except with a gaming studio. Don’t worry, they’re not the biting type. Only the higher-ups sink their teeth in. Anyway, this team—teamLFG they call themselves—has just snagged the official PS studio title. They’re whipping up some multiplayer action, apparently inspired by, get this, “frog-type games.” Whatever that means.
The info dump came from a PS Blog post, featuring Sony Interactive top dog Hermen Hulst. He’s introducing this studio like it’s his newest prodigy. Picture a proud dad, but one that might cut you out of his will if you don’t swim with the sharks in this cutthroat live service ocean. Quite the imagery, right?
Now, this teamLFG stands for “Looking For Group”—not the cooler, more sweary version I’d hoped for. They’re camped out in Bellevue, Washington, mixing rookie talent with veterans from gaming behemoths like Destiny, Halo, and League of Legends. Oh, and they’re an offshoot of Bungie, in case you’re wondering about lineage.
They’re all about smashing together top-notch action and rich social worlds. Their mantra? Creating games where players bond, find buddies, and feel like they belong. Basically, aligning perfectly with PS’s live-service ambitions—fingers crossed on that, eh?
Their first creation is taking hints from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and those enigmatic frog-type games. Players will dive into a comedic science-fantasy world. Sounds like a fun mash-up, even if I’m scratching my head on the whole “frog-type” thing. I mean, are we talking something like Crazy Frog meets Fortnite? Maybe? Maybe not.
Crazy Frog in Overwatch or Fortnite gear? Probably not happening, but who knows, right?
Anyway, they did mention a lot about early access tests and getting player feedback, so maybe some trials are on the horizon. You think this Crazy Frog-meets-Overwatch/insert pop game culture mash-up is what PlayStation’s been missing? Drop your thoughts below!
