Oh man, so here’s what happened with Itch.io. They just yanked all the adult NSFW stuff off their site. Why? Payment providers! They got all worked up after some anti-porn group, Collective Shout (real killjoys, huh?), sounded the alarm. So these folks told the payment people, and then bam — action time.
Leaf Corcoran, the brain behind Itch.io, wrote this blog post. Classic “we’re-in-trouble” tone. Apparently, Leaf’s caught in a frenzy of sorts. This group just won’t quit; they’ve got their sights on Steam too. Talk about a crusade!
So, to keep things running smoothly — and to avoid the wrath of their payment peeps — Itch.io decided to give its content a once-over. Guess they gotta play nice. Leaf was like, “Processing payments? Yeah, kinda essential. We can’t mess with that if we want to keep giving creators a place for their stuff.” And I mean, who wouldn’t?
But here’s the kicker — time wasn’t exactly on their side. It all happened in a rush. No heads-up for creators. Boom. Change thrown right at them. Sort of like having the rug yanked from under you. Sorry not sorry moment, I guess? Leaf seemed genuinely apologetic, though.
Oh, and over at Valve, they’ve got new rules too. Some guidelines that are as clear as mud, thanks to the same Collective Shout folks giving them a hard time. It’s like, come on, give us a break!
Anyway — wait, where was I? Oh yeah, these waves are hitting everyone. It’s a bit of a whirlwind in the indie game world right now.
