This upcoming project promises to be as “highly moddable” as Blade & Sorcery, tapping into the studio’s signature approach to physics-based combat and rich simulation experiences.
Though details remain scarce, Warpfrog assured Road to VR that this new title will also be crafted for the VR platform. Players can expect the familiar touchstones of Warpfrog games, which include intricate physics interactions and a deep commitment to authentic simulation experiences. Interestingly, one of the key features that set Blade & Sorcery apart—its extensive modding capabilities—will carry over to the new project. Blade & Sorcery fans will recall the ease of modding through both manual methods and the use of Nexus Mod Manager, allowing a broad range of customizations, from enhancing weapon effects to adding entirely new maps and weapons designed by the community.
In a conversation with Meta last October, the studio shed light on some internal developments. To address the challenges faced during Blade & Sorcery’s long early access phase, Warpfrog is adopting a new framework. This decision comes after the original structure, often described humorously as “spaghetti code,” was pushed to its limits. Warpfrog explained, “We need to start fresh with a whole new engine. For the first time, we are working with our fully assembled team from start to finish on an entirely new project, ensuring it’s scalable and efficient.”
The studio’s growth has been impressive indeed. What began as a solo project led by the developer known as KospY has blossomed into a robust team of nearly 30 members. This expansion speaks to the studio’s promising potential in the gaming world.
June’s landmark update, introducing the ‘Crystal Hunt’ mode, marked a significant evolution for Blade & Sorcery. The game transcended its roots as a combat simulation, adopting elements of an adventure game complete with a story, upgrade systems, and a vast, interconnected world.
Reflecting on the path ahead, Warpfrog shared in a recent Steam update, “With the knowledge we’ve amassed over these past five years, we’re eager to unveil what we have in store next. It’s your support that’s propelled us to take on developing larger, more ambitious games.” The studio seems poised to continue its innovative path, much to the delight of its growing fanbase.
