Oh boy, where to start? So, May 27, apparently, is Dragon Quest Day. Who knew? Well, lots of people if you happen to be into the whole JRPG thing—shoutout to you guys. This game’s been kicking around since 1986, which feels like a lifetime ago. Anyway, Happy Dragon Quest Day, I guess?
If you’re like me, maybe you’re just hearing about Dragon Quest now or maybe you’ve been living under a rock. Either way, today seems like a good day to dive into this quirky world. Why not, right?
Okay, let’s get into it. There are these three legendary dudes behind Dragon Quest. Yuji Horii, the big brain behind it all, got this thing rolling. Akira Toriyama? Yeah, he did those wild character designs—total pro. Then, there’s Koichi Sugiyama who made the tunes. Sounds like a power team if you ask me.
Dragon what now? Yeah, the name comes from “dragon” and “quest”—pretty straightforward. And in North America, it had this whole identity crisis being called “Dragon Warrior” for a bit. I mean, who knew having a trademark for names could be such a thing? So, anyway, it’s officially Dragon Quest everywhere now.
Let’s talk RPGs. Dragon Quest tried to make RPGs for us all, like, even if you’re not a hardcore gamer. So there’s you, in this game, fighting slimy things and tackling the big bad Dragon Lord or whatever. You either plan every move or, you know, hope for the best—classic turn-based stuff. It’s a hit, especially in Japan. They’re obsessed… like, really.
Moving on! So, Dragon Quest III got a big glow-up last year—a remake in HD-2D, which apparently is a thing now. It’s part of this Erdrick Trilogy. Lots of new stuff, pretty pictures, and a dash of nostalgia for good measure. According to the producer, Hayasaka, the pressure was REAL because if he messed it up, well, yikes.
Anyway, there’s a style to these games. “Dragon Quest-ness,” they call it. Loads of color, vivacity, vibrancy—all that jazz. Team effort to keep it all in sync, I guess. And the result? A big thumbs up from critics. So, naturally, what comes next? Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake.
Dragon Quest Day celebrations are a thing. Fans everywhere go wild with art, messages, and all that jazz. Personally, I’m just trying to keep track. They announced Dragon Quest I & II’s release date—October 30, 2025. Woo-hoo, mark those calendars already.
But if you’re itching to start slaying slimes now, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is out on Xbox.
Thanks for joining in my little ramble. Happy gaming, happy Dragon Quest-ing, or whichever floats your boat. 🌟
