The Far Cry series, man, it’s been one of those go-tos for Ubisoft for what feels like forever. Seriously, over 20 years. They’ve cranked out new games almost like clockwork, almost every year. But hey, guess what? It’s been kind of quiet lately. Far Cry 6 hit us back in 2021, and now here we are, nearly four years later, and… nada. Longest gap ever. Like, are they taking a nap or what? Sure, they tossed a few updates — like letting us play older games at 60 FPS — but no peep about what’s next. Kinda suspicious, right? Maybe they’re plotting something big, who knows.
Some folks, the die-hard fans, they’re hoping this downtime means Ubisoft’s cooking up some fresh ideas. I mean, Far Cry 6 was cool and all, but let’s be real, it didn’t exactly shake the earth. Critics, gamers, everyone sort of felt it was the same old, same old. There are whispers — well, more like rumors — that the next game is gonna shake things up big time. Fingers crossed Ubisoft’s actually listening this time.
And now, we’re hearing stuff about Far Cry 7 taking a leaf from Assassin’s Creed’s book. Yeah, you heard that right. Around the time Far Cry 6 dropped, there was talk about the next game being a live-service deal, like this Assassin’s Creed Infinity thing. That didn’t go over well with fans, though. Made some noise, for sure. But apparently, Ubisoft’s got two new games on the way: one multiplayer shooter in Alaska and a solo adventure with some kind of ticking clock. Wild, huh?
Seems these projects started as one game but kinda ballooned into separate ideas along the way. Happens, I guess.
Oh, and speaking of that Assassin’s Creed Infinity – or the Animus Hub, as it’s called. It’s this fancy interface thing they’ve got to tie all the AC games together. Acts like a main menu on steroids — extra missions, rare gear, all that jazz. Sure, it’s neat, but would Far Cry even need something like that? The AC games are all about interlinked stories, right? Far Cry’s kinda more “each to their own” with stories. Makes it hard to see the point of tossing something like the Animus Hub in there.
But hey, maybe I’m just missing it. Let’s say, future Far Cry games could learn a thing or two, but an extra menu? Probably not top of the list.
Anyway, who knows what Ubisoft’s got brewing. Here’s hoping whatever comes next really mixes things up, because we could all use a little shakeup, right?
