A support agent for Helldivers 2 has recently clarified that the issues players have been experiencing with the Eruptor weapon aren’t due to a deliberate nerf, but rather a glitch. Many players had filed complaints, believing a recent patch had weakened the weapon. Yet, this official response didn’t end the discussion. Soon after, the community manager from Arrowhead Game Studios chimed in, bringing more insights into the situation. Helldivers 2 has had its fair share of amusing bugs, but the latest glitches affecting the weapons are starting to test the patience of its dedicated fanbase.
Released in 2024, Helldivers 2 quickly garnered attention and praise for its thrilling battles against Terminids and Automatons, combined with its clever satire of patriotism. Recently, players were called back to Malevelon Creek by a new Major Order, amidst widespread rumors about an Automaton rebellion. But for now, the Eruptor will remain out of battle operations, awaiting further adjustments.
A player who goes by the name p_visual on Reddit shared a screenshot of their ticket email to Arrowhead, bringing attention to issues with the Eruptor’s shrapnel pattern. Instead of functioning as promised in the patch notes, the weapon’s shrapnel ended up targeting the player similarly to the notorious range bug of Helldivers 2’s grenade launcher. Although a support agent assured that this particular problem had been resolved, admitting that the behavior wasn’t a nerf, Arrowhead’s community manager revealed that the agent had erred. The manager clarified that what seemed like excessive performance by the Eruptor was due to a glitch, and it has now been tweaked to fit its intended function. Unfortunately, this “intended function” includes the shrapnel sometimes hitting the player.
While quirky bugs, like the one that accidentally combined the Grenade Launcher and Diligence Counter Sniper into a super weapon, were embraced with laughter, the community isn’t as forgiving towards the Eruptor’s current state. Confusion arose over Arrowhead’s classification of the Eruptor as overpowered, especially since its shrapnel now poses more danger to players and their teammates. Fortunately, the community manager indicated that the developers are actively working to address these concerns, acknowledging that they aren’t particularly satisfied with how the Eruptor is performing at the moment.
Arrowhead has been commendably open with the gaming community, fostering an engaging relationship regarding updates and bug fixes. However, the CEO, Shams Jorjani, remains silent about the future content roadmap for Helldivers 2. He believes that keeping plans under wraps fosters more distinctive updates and sustains Arrowhead’s interactive communication with its players.
