Totally out of nowhere, Samsung’s getting ready to hit us with their Unpacked event next month. You know, the usual parade of shiny gadgets. But this time they might really shake things up—whispers suggest we’ll see the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7, and even the Galaxy Watch 8. Oh, but hold onto your hats (or whatever), because there’s also chatter about this mysterious XR headset… Project Moohan. Yeah, I had to double-check that name too.
Back in December 2024, they made some big noise about it alongside Android XR — kinda caught folks off guard. Samsung’s been coy, hinting it’ll hit the shelves this year, with no solid date. A real puzzle, right?
And then there’s “Panda Flash” — not a superhero, just a serial leaker. They’re saying this mixed reality headset could finally get a real launch date. Remember how we were all sitting on the edge of our seats during Google I/O, expecting something? Nada. Samsung seems to be playing it close to the chest now, which is odd.
First dibs might go to South Korea, presumably. Then a slow roll-out everywhere else. Copying Apple’s low-key dramatic Vision Pro debut, it seems.
This Moohan thing’s been a bit of a tease at several events (yeah, I’ve lost count). At one point, we actually got to try it out last December. And—get this—they’ve shoved in some fancy tech: a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2, some mystery Sony micro-OLED screens, and something called pancake lenses. Sound futuristic, no? They’ve got eye and hand-tracking down, and a battery you can swap out. They even threw in a light shield, though why you’d need one beats me. Oh, and controllers… but those are still missing in action.
Also, sidebar: They might be cooking up smart glasses to challenge Ray-Ban’s Meta Smart Glasses. Classic, Samsung always keeps us guessing.
Anyway—wait, where was I going with this? We’ll be eyeing official word on the Unpacked dates, supposedly early next month in NYC. Promise this wasn’t just me getting sidetracked by shiny things.
