You know when something just grabs you out of nowhere and doesn’t let go? That’s kinda what happened today during the Future Games Show livestream. This new VR game, Reach, from nDreams Elevation — a studio I swear popped up just yesterday in 2022 — is making big waves. And yeah, I’m talking tsunami-sized.
So, here’s the deal: Reach is all about parkour. You know, that crazy run-and-jump stuff that makes you wonder why no one ever sprains an ankle? Throw in some beefy combat against oversized monsters and a world so detailed it’ll make your head spin. Or that’s what they’re promising, anyway.
This is nDreams Elevation’s first game (yep, their debut). And they’re calling it their “most ambitious title to date.” Bold, right? The game’s coming out soon on basically every VR headset you can imagine. They’re keeping things vague with a “later this year” release. Suspense is a killer, isn’t it?
Side note: I watched the trailer. Let’s just say it’s like someone mashed together Assassin’s Creed and your wildest VR dreams. Jumping, climbing, zip-lining—stuff that should make you feel like a superhero or maybe just really dizzy. nDreams did this with Fracked and Synapse too, if I’m remembering right. Or maybe not. My memory’s been kinda iffy lately.
Anyway, players are supposed to become masters of all these tools, shaping a world that changes based on what they do. It’s kinda like life, right? But with mythical threats lurking around. Tuesday, June 10th is when they’ll dive deeper with more info and gameplay at this VR Developer Direct show thing.
Oh, and Shuhei Yoshida—pretty much a rock star in gaming circles—introduced Reach. It’s like getting a thumbs up from the universe. Shu was all excited about it too, saying this game blew his mind. That’s saying something because he’s kinda seen it all.
Glenn Brace, the studio head, went on about how they want players to feel all-powerful and totally in control. Like we all need more decision-making, right? But no kidding, they’re aiming high. Sounds like they’re trying to take VR gameplay to a whole new level, blending physical action with thoughtful storytelling. Kudos to them for trying, at least.
Oh, and before I forget—Reach is up for wishlisting on the Horizon Store, PSVR 2’s place, and Steam. Go check it out. Or don’t. No pressure. Anyway, where was I?
