Alright, so Ra Ra Boom has hit the shelves, or rather, the Xbox Series X|S consoles, and you’re holding the product of some seriously dedicated work from Gylee Games. Can’t lie – it’s kind of exciting to see this finally out there.
So, what’s the deal with Ra Ra Boom? It’s this side-scrolling beat ’em up, and I thought I’d ramble a bit about a few of the enemies you’ll be facing. Fair warning: my brain’s a bit all over the place, but let’s dive into the madness that is my Top Three.
First up, The Brute. Oh man, this one’s a roller coaster – literally. My brain’s wired weird, but this boss is inspired by a roller coaster from my favorite amusement park. The kicker? Transforming into a coaster cart! Yep, it’s wild. We’re talking player lanes made of train tracks. It’s chaos, but the good kind. You gotta watch for its pounce attack, and if you’re not paying attention, boom! You’re toast. Then the thing transforms. I mean, come on, a coaster? It’s madness. Really pushes your buttons with those lanes.
Next on my list is Martin. Love this guy. He was like, the last-minute addition, thank creativity gods. Picture this: We needed some airborne action for players – jump attacks and all. Problem was, flying foes in these types of games are… well, annoying. Seen it too many times. But then, lightbulb moment! Giant holographic legs! I know, right? So, we got this cute little robot dude toddlin’ about, giggling like mad, and Martin was born.
Finally, we got Bruce, and OMG, what a journey. We rewrote his boss fight a bazillion times to find the fun. You ever get motion sick from a game? That was me, every day, until we tweaked that parallax background. I felt like my room was spinning – not fun. So, Bruce was all about chasing your tail, dodging left and right, but it was missing something. Brought it to GDEX and PAX, and nobody was blown away. Sad face. Enter Eugene – our anxious little robot buddy – who ran alongside you, exploding for attacks… but that still wasn’t enough. So, hitting the brakes on the chase, letting players breathe, mix in some attack phases – now that’s the Bruce we wanted.
Anyway—no, back to you! Check Ra Ra Boom out and tell us who you love smackin’ around the most. I promise you, it’s a wild ride.
