Alright, so the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming soon and, honestly, I’m kind of curious about how it’s gonna turn out. There’s been a bunch of head-scratchers around it already. Like, why’s the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour not a built-in tech demo but a full-price thing? Feels like they’re charging just to charge, you know? Still, I’m guessing fans of the first console might jump on it anyway. Nostalgia’s a powerful thing.
Nintendo’s banking on the Switch 2, clearly. Same old charm but beefier processing, they say. It’s supposed to handle big titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring now — can you imagine that? But also, juiced-up versions of old Switch games. The OG Switch got a lot of flak for being weak compared to those Sony and Microsoft beasts. So, maybe this time, they’re pulling out all the stops with these game ports? It better be worth it, though. Hmm, where was I?
Speaking of games, not too many old Switch titles are getting the free upgrade treatment on the Switch 2 — kind of a buzzkill, right? Some are getting the bells and whistles like higher resolution, FPS boosts. Games like ARMS and Super Mario Odyssey are adding HDR support too. But, heads up, not every game on the list is getting fancy GameChat and GameShare features. Like, Big Brain Academy isn’t getting a facelift, probably ’cause that’s just how its simple graphics roll.
Okay, premium upgrades. Now this… this is where it gets funky. Games like Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are charging $20 for enhancements and new content — Mario Party’s even got Switch 2-exclusive modes. Yet, for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, it’s only $10? What about the rest of them? Nintendo’s still figuring that out, I guess. Charging for next-gen thrills didn’t really fly with PS5 and Xbox Series, so Nintendo might need to watch out. Could be, adding new content will soothe the sting. Or not.
Oh, by the way, apparently there’s a bunch of specs and features to drool over. Brand new Nintendo, lovely proprietary OS, that 256GB internal storage — sweet! Plus, 1080p handheld gaming and 4K when docked. Sounds like they’re really stepping up, huh? Anyway, whether this hits or misses, it’ll give us something to talk about for sure.
